About ACSIG
About ACSIG
Member-owned insurance, built for California’s public schools.
ACSIG’s Purpose
Protect the financial stability of California’s public schools through pooled risk management.
Our Mission and History
The Alameda County Schools Insurance Group (ACSIG) is a Joint Powers Authority serving public school districts and educational agencies in California. Founded on July 1, 1978, ACSIG began as a self-insurance pool to help local agencies manage workers' compensation exposure.
Over more than four decades, our programs have expanded to cover property and liability, dental, and vision needs. Today, ACSIG serves member districts and agencies statewide, with a Dental program covering over 115,000 employees and a Vision program serving more than 50 districts.
We exist for one purpose: to protect the financial stability of California's public schools through pooled risk management. As a member-owned organization, every dollar we earn is reinvested into the programs our members rely on.
ACSIG by the Numbers
Why Pooled Insurance Works for School Districts
A Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is a partnership formed by public agencies — in our case, school districts and county offices of education — to share resources, lower costs, and manage risk together. When districts pool their insurance through ACSIG, they gain:
- Lower premiums than commercial insurance
- A voice in how programs are designed and run
- Specialized expertise in school district risk
- Reinvestment of surplus back into the pool
ACSIG is governed by its members, not by shareholders. Every member agency has one vote and a seat at the table.
